Masheter Christmas Letter 2013

Festive Fodder, mystical elves, snow globes and guiding stars…

So it’s that time of year, the fully fledged humble bragging Christmas letters flood in. We are giving it our best shot, be ready for this (drum roll) Masheter masterpiece… *insert triumphant music here..*

Mums turned half a century, become somewhat an intrepid explorer and is sporting a Bob Marley tan. So you may have heard it through the grape vine that after spending her 50th birthday tearing around Tiree on her balloon bedecked bicycle she continued to live the highlife year of adventures. The two wheeled bike contraption was then replaced by a hippy home, campervan for a weekend in Ullapool at the adult Feis with friends. From music performances to pampering, it was a momentous occasion when Mum relaxed and became a lady of leisure for a single weekend as she was plucked, massaged and painted various nail colours with friends at Peebles Spa. Dad has invested in a rather generous supply of anti-wrinkle cream. He’s still gliding the ice with his curling pals, manicuring ‘Royal’ Aigas Golf Course and being our hero as fireman Phil at the airport. Now that Alice and I have technically flown the nest, the pair have embraced the childless glee and amidst work commitments have  soaked up a glorious summer of sunshine in Pitlochry, Skye, Coll, Torridan, Applecross and to top the year off, two weeks in Tenerife.

Alice busted the Race For Life this year and after running her little leggies off she raised a champion £1600 for Cancer Research (thanks to all you generous bunch for the sponsorship!) After a bikini clad girls holiday in Crete she moved into new flat in Edinburgh that conveniently overlooks the castle, a prime spot. Alongside completing her social work degree, she is gaining the practical experience working for an action group in the city and loving the service users she helps. Roads are still safe as she hasn’t yet got the pink licence but she is riding the curb and clipping all roadside foliage with the wing mirrors.

After returning from a treasured year working in bustling Boston, squashing in plenty of sunshine golfing time and travelling the neighbouring States, I am now in my final year of university and officially a library bound hermit, swamped in textbooks and battling dissertation distress. The thud back to undergraduate reality was a shock to the system but thankfully it’s not long until potential graduation and the daunting work life span ahead! Currently making the most of my 21st year, herded in a Glasgow flat with 5 of my close girlfriends and although it sounds like a ‘girlband’ nightmare, it’s marvellous to spend the evenings lounging, chattering and gulping excessive cups of tea with such an ambitious, fruitful bunch. My micro enterprising of harp performing and portrait painting are keeping me out the typical student overdraft zone and providing a little escapism from the academic madness.

Overall the year has been a splatter of colourful escapades for us all which have truthfully brightened some of the dreary Highland days and emotional moments that we have managed to gleam through. Wishing you all a glittering festive period of turkey traditions, treacherous tobogganing and mulled wine aroma!

Much love, Katie & the rest of the Mashie Clan x
