Olympic Torch Relay

A combination of talent displays and major celebrations marking the flames arrival in the Highland capital – Inverness, a milestone in the olympic relay.

The Olympic Torch is estimated to travel 8,000 miles around the UK and it is thought that 95 per cent of the population will be within a one hour journey time of the torch as it travels. It has caused quite a stir throughout the country and it is a fantastic opportunity to promote unity, show off the scenic UK landscapes and exhibit sporting aptitude.

I attended the Inverness concert which was a belter with music performed by a personal idol of mine Emelie Sande plus acrobatics and dance acts. Overall it highlighted how influential an event like this can be in boosting moral at a time when the country is suffering and in economic decline. It was a once in a lifetime experience having the torch in our hometown and I feel privileged to have been a part of something so monumental.
